Buildings –
index-linked, new for old
The basic cover
includes:
Fire, aircraft,
explosion, lightning, storm and flood, theft, riot and malicious
damage, impact by vehicles, animals or falling trees, earthquake
(except Italy, Greece and Cyprus). An increased Policy Excess of
2.5% of the Building Sum Insured applies in respect of Portugal
earthquake damage. Subsidence cover is not available except in
Spain where is free.
Accidental
damage whilst property is occupied
by the insured or family is available at extra cost.
Also
included in the cover:
Loss of hiring
charges as a result of any of the main perils. Breakage of glass
and sanitary fittings up to ₤1,000. Trace & Access up to ₤1,000.
Debris removal, architect’s and surveyor’s fees.
The Sum
Insured should be the full cost of rebuilding in the same size,
style and condition as new with no deductions for wear and tear
or deprecation. This should also include amounts for architect’s
and surveyor’s fees, removal of debris, outbuildings, garages
and walls.
Public
liability cover of up to ₤2,000,000 included for persons
who, with your permission, temporarily occupy the property
Contents –
index- linked, new for old
The basic cover
for Contents of the property is similar to that for Buildings.
Also
included in the cover:
Theft by
violent and forcible entry and cash in gas/electricity meters.
Theft and loss of keys.
The sum
Insured should be the full cost of replacing all Contents at
today’s shop prices with no deduction for wear and tear or
deprecation except for clothing or linen where a deduction
should be made.
Emergency
Travel Expenses

Following a major loss 8claims over

Up to ₤300 travelling costs for
the Insured Person.

Up to ₤300 travelling costs for a member of the Insured’s
family.

Up to ₤400 for temporary accommodation and/or expenses in the
event of the home
being
uninhabitable.

The overall limit for travel expenses benefit in any one year is
₤1,000.
Type of
property covered
The policy is
designed to the cover property overseas. The policy does not
cover mobile homes, caravans, beach huts or any thatched
properties.
Claims
settlement
Buildings
If your chosen
Sum Insured is less than the full replacement cost (including,
for Buildings, an allowance for architect’s and surveyor’s fees
and costs of site clearance etc.) your claim may be reduced in
proportion to the extent of the underinsurance. It is important
that you adequately insure your property. Full details on
underinsurance can be found in the policy document, a copy of
which is available on request.
Contents
Your policy
will pay for the cost of repair or for replacement as new
subject to replacement or repair being carried out and provided
that, at time of the loss or damage the Sum Insured is not less
than the full replacement value of all Contents.
Excess
payments
For properties
in Greece, Cyprus and Italy you will be required to pay the
first ₤100 of any claim. For all other locations you will be
required to pay the first ₤50 of any claim.
Subsidence
Excess ₤1,000. An increased Policy Excess of 2.5 % of the
Buildings Sum Insured applies in respect of Portugal earthquake
damage.
Claims
acceptance
Before a claim
is accepted under the policy, damage must result from one of the
causes listed in the policy booklet. Damage resulting from
deterioration or poor maintenance is not covered.
