Where is Dolores?

Dolores is located in the Comarca de la Vega Baja in Alicante, about 5 miles from La Marina.  It is a beautiful country town, in the heart of the Spanish huerta (vegetable garden) easily accessible though the Alicante to Cartagena motorway (a 10 minute drive away).

The History of Dolores.

The town of Dolores was founded in 1715, and its population is now close to 11,000 people.  The typical Dolores cuisine is basically huertana (everything from the orchard), taking advantage of the exquisite fresh greens and vegetables produced in the area.  Poultry and Game also go into some of the typical recipes.  With Dolores being so close to the Mediterranean, many dishes include fresh fish and seafood.  Locally made cold meats are especially appreciated.  As for fresh fruits, melons, watermelons, peaches, oranges and many more are simply delicious.

All Spanish towns have their fiestas and Dolores is no exception.

The Feria de Agosto (August Fair) is one of the most important of its kind in all of Spain. 

A must for horse lovers, this fair features a Spanish Horse Contest. 

More than 1,500 horses are shown each year in all sorts of games and activities.  Bovine cattle and dog contests are also held at the fair. 

For those who love fishing and hunting will find a great variety of small game and fish at El Hondo Natural park Dolores.
